Review: Hoop by Dee Lee Doo

It amuses me how I tend to stumble upon something incredible when I least expect it, in this case, when I was surfing around on Reddit. I came across a link to an Indiegogo fundraiser, where a young woman is currently doing everything she can to raise enough money to start her own business in designing and making elegant, eco-friendly wooden dildos.

You should all know by now how passionate I am about supporting artisans who make beautiful sex toys, so I got very excited when I saw Iris’ fundraiser. Right from the word go, I believed in her vision, and wanted to help her reach her $10,000 target. I decided to send her an e-mail, to see if I could assist her in spreading the word, and was overjoyed when she agreed to send me one of her wooden dildos in exchange for an honest review. I’m proud to say that this is the very first Dee Lee Doo review you’ll find, and I did my best to cover as many areas as I could. However, should I have left any of your questions unaddressed in this article, feel free to leave a comment below, and I’ll be happy to provide you with the answers to them.

Currently, the Dee Lee Doo dildos are available on request.

Unconventional materials are flooding the sex toy market; especially glass and steel are ever increasing in popularity. Perhaps in modern day times wood is an unconventional material. However it may be interesting to know that the Romans used wood for their dildos, and it is rumored Cleopatra had a wooden dildo made for her.
Wooden dildos are safe to share (if they have been oiled and treated and if you sterilize it between users) and you can use any type of lubricant with them. Mutenye is one of the exotic woods Dee Lee Doo has to offer, and originates from tropical western Africa.

Shipping & packaging

The wooden dildo arrived safely in discrete packaging after six business days, which is pretty fast considering it had to travel from Slovenia to South Africa. The packaging of the Hoop is really something special: it’s a cylinder made of felt. It’s soft, but sturdy enough to keep its shape. It stands up straight when it’s empty, but a bit skewed with the dildo in it due to the shape of the dildo, which I personally don’t mind since I store my toys flat anyway. The felt has some minor imperfections, which gives it character and accentuates the all-natural look. It’s also very lightweight, which makes it better for travel than the boxes other toys come in. Also, know that the packaging of our Hoop is a prototype: you’ll get an even nicer woolen packaging when you decide to get your own.

First impression

The level of craftsmanship that went into making my wooden dildo is incredible. Sir works with wood himself, and he said he could see the hours of work that were put into making it. Dee Lee Doo dildos are sanded by hand to make them feel sensually smooth. People have reacted in a rather silly way, when I talked about wooden dildos before. “All those splinters? No thank you!” But let me tell you, this is just a myth. Wouldn’t someone have to be extremely masochistic to voluntarily insert a dildo that could leave splinters behind? So, then..!
One of the best features of the Dee Lee Doo dildos is that all of them are unique. Because they are made of wood, you will never find one with exactly the same grain pattern, which makes this Hoop completely mine. I like how Iris has positioned the wood so the grains follow the length of my dildo, it gives a striking effect.

Pleasure

Since the surface of our wooden dildo is so smooth, we only applied a tiny amount of SPUNK Hybrid Pink lubricant on the dildo prior to insertion. The temperature of wood is entirely different from glass: to me, it felt slightly cooler than my skin, which was very comfortable. The Hoop gave me an experience that were unlike others, as it felt natural. I don’t mean natural as in that it felt like the real thing, no.. due to the material and the gentle shape, it didn’t feel like I was actually using a dildo, but rather as a beautifully sculpted piece of Mutenye that both feels as good inside of me and is a stunning piece of art on display.
Other than that, due to the shape it gives me the feeling of being pounded, like the G-Glass from Simply Blown, but because the Hoop is lighter, we do not have to hold back when using it, which is awesome. Plus because it’s lighter, it also stays inside of me when left unattended for a bit. The Hoop is also a nicely average-sized toy: it’s not particularly large, but has enough girth to it for a gentle stretch.
The shape of the Hoop makes it wonderful for g-spot stimulation. And although I don’t squirt easily, I had some very pleasing climaxes while using this dildo. Both ends are different: one is slightly thicker with more pointy tip, while the other is a bit thinner with a more rounded tip, providing different sensations. We’ve tried using it as an anal toy, and came to the conclusion most people would need some warm-up with a butt plug or a smaller dildo before trying this one.

Taking care of our wooden dildo

I thought cleaning couldn’t get easier than cleaning our glass toys, but there is one thing that does make it even easier to clean a wooden one: when wet it’s not as slippery as glass, which also reduces the risk of dropping it. Dee Lee Doo dildos are waterproof because they’re finished with multiple layers of an eco-friendly water thinned transparent varnish, so you can just rinse it in some warm soapy water and dry it with a cloth.
Make sure to sterilize your Dee Lee Doo dildo before changing orifices or share it with someone else. The safest and easiest method to do this is by using a soft cloth and a 10% bleach solution (or with a disinfecting wipe, if you have one laying around). Just make sure to rinse your toy thoroughly with water when you’re done, since you really don’t want bleach anywhere near your most delicate body parts.
When it’s all nice and clean again, we store it in the felt cylinder that came with our Hoop.
As a side note; due to the nature of wood and its inherent qualities, try to avoid leaning on the center (the thinnest part) of the Hoop. The chances of it breaking are minimal, but since this is the most delicate part of the dildo, you should avoid putting pressure on it.

The good

Final verdict

Quite honestly, I could not think of any points for the “to consider” part we normally include in our reviews, doesn’t that say enough, really? This is a classy, durable and eco-friendly dildo, made by a young woman who passionately follows her dreams. How could you not want to support that?
If you’d like a Dee Lee Doo dildo of your own, go to Indiegogo and have a look at Iris’ six different designs and wood options (three local woods and three exotic ones). The fundraiser has ended, but you can send us an e-mail if you’re interested in one.

Disclaimer: Iris, the owner of Dee Lee Doo, was so generous to provide us with one of her wooden designs in exchange for an honest, and open review. This is in compliance with FTC guidelines.
